The Okanagan Creative Council is a valley-wide social marketing initiative with the following mandate: 1. To foster awareness of the arts and the creative industries among tourists, business visitors, and residents, and business and social constituencies - including the people involved in knowledge/hightech industries, business organizations, chambers of commerce, membership organizations, community and social agencies, school boards, trustees, and teachers, university and training institutes, financial and social agencies.
2. To ensure that the arts are included in any social and economic development initiatives undertaken by the various levels of government (federal, provincial, regional, local), and that other constituences are aware of the role the arts play in community building and sustainable development.
The primary mechanisms are a news and information service, a website, an ezine, and a print publication to be circulated through infocentres, print media inserts (phone books, tourism brochures, mags, and newspapers), and public information kiosks in arts, heritage, and selected commercial venues. It will contain a directory of places and people, a schedule of events, reviews and writings. We are also looking forward to doing educaiton and outreach programs through the schools and libraries, and provide a training and professional development facility.
We intend to secure sponsorship funding from several corporate sources, and are looking to do cross promotion with other organizations dealing with tourism, business travel, sports and recreation, the wine and beverage industry, agritourism, hotel and accomodation providers, and the retired.
